There's no monthly platform fee at all — writers keep publishing for free and Substack only takes a cut (10%) when a reader pays for a subscription, on top of standard Stripe processing fees. Net take-home is roughly 87-88% of gross subscription revenue after both cuts. This revenue-share model tends to cost less than a flat-fee competitor (beehiiv, Kit) below a few hundred dollars a month in reader revenue, and more above that threshold.
